After resting at home for 2 months, Ryan has started his half day nursery class in July 2010.
I was so worried that he will cry and make a fuss at school. Thanks GOD,...everything is going well and he can adapt well.
The only problem is that he still refuse to eat the food given by the school. I have to tapao some cake or bread for him to school,or else, he will get hungry.
Of course, every morning, he will have a bottle of milk before goes to school.
Ryan can sing lot of nursery songs and his writing and colouring skills has improved too.
Every night, I will do some revision with him on letters and numbers.
Last night, we did a writing of number 4. and he managed to write it well.
Tonite, we will be doing number 5 and number 6.
Sometimes when I read out certain letter, he will be able to write it out too.
My big problem is writing a mandarin words. Since I am BLIND with mandarin words, for sure I won't be able to teach him Mandarin in future. It is time for me to learn Mandarin too. Oh Gosh ** .... am I too old for it??
I have to start myself up from the basic level........I am not sure whether my brain is working well or not, after retiring from my study for so long.Need some motivation to do it well !!! Help Help Help..........

Great to know Ryan coping well in school. He sure enjoys because get to play with new friends.
My hubby is a totally banana too. He only knows his name. He does not like the way I teach him, he said the level I taught is not for beginner like him. So, he is learning mandarin from our daughter (Shenny). He never minds occasionally teased by Shenny.
Ha..probably you can cross learning from Ryan too.
get an electronic dictionary that speak, and let you handwrite to find words and meanings... you will learn very fast.
Good to know that Ryan not rejecting school and progressing well in school.
I am sure you can do it. And it can be fun learning a new language with him.
Get a good dictionary maybe or those online dictionaries. It will help.
Good to hear Ryan adapt well his school life. You may try this Chinese Vocab Builder VCD. I bought it here @ http://www.kids.net.my/detail.php?productid=362 Find it quite interesting it teach vocab, stroke and how to write it.
Good that Ryan is coping well at school afer a long break:) Good boy!
I am also not Chinese educated but sent my son to a Chinese school. Kids pick up a new language fast when they use the language everyday at school:)
wow.. can do writting adi.. good boy!!!
Mery, I think your boy is very advance liao. He is same age as Philip. But Philip cant even hold the pencil properly yet....so very good. Keep it up.
Great improvement!
Try www.yellowbridge.com, a free online talking chinese dictionary. It shows you the sequence of strokes, the correct pronounciation and also the meaning.
Added you to my blogroll.:)
It shows that Ryan enjoyed school !
Both my cousin (husband & wife) are blind in Chinese. But they sent both their kids to chinese school. Both did very well and are now in their college years. Don't worry too much. Sure he can cope with chinese in school.
Is it a good progress of Ryan! Mery, does your hub know Chinese? Maybe he can be your teacher at home :P
Ryan's doing well....great milestone! When there's a will, there's s way. So you must find the will first, then everything will fall into place. :-D
All the best to Ryan.....time really flies doesn't it, and as parent we must really spend quality them with them, playing crazily with them, talk to them, laugh with them, make them happy the way we can.
If we have happy children, we sure will have happy parent, right?
take care now and God Bless
I am also a banana... my kids are too... so... no need for me to learn.. u r still young.. can catch up one.. not to worry :P
Glad to hear he's adj well in kindy after a 2-mth break. I like yellowbridge.com coz u can input Chn words to search for the meaning. Or maybe u can consider getting an e-dictionary for its portability. Hv fun learning Chn with Ryan!

Doesn't take up a lot of time on a daily basis. Just need to be consistent. All the best! You can do it!! :)
most kids are ok in school but very naughty at home..
i share your sentiment! I am a bat too with Mandarin. Now every week HQ has ting xie, and I'll be learning together with him... hahah!
we all kampatei, ok! :-D.
Hahaha.. I am also mandarin 'blind'!! Have to learn from their kindy books in order to teach them!! :) Luckily only kindy one subject! I didn't put them in chinese primary school, so no more torture after that!
Hi Mery, talking about Mandarin I'm a banana too. But I manage to guide my boy in his P1 lessons, so far we survive though I have to buy an e-dict to help me.
Start it correctly in the pre-school. It is helpful for their basic.
and to Ryan, thumbs up. You show a great improvement!
Mandarin is tough to learn. I have given back a lot of Chinese words to teacher, due to lack of practice.
Ryan sounds like a very clever boy!
My Ryan doesn't want to eat the food given by his school too.
It's good that your boy has the appetite eat even though he had a bottle of milk.
Mine doesn't have the appetite to eat after taking his milk (before going off to sch). He sometimes doesn't have the appetite to drink his milk in the morning.
So nice that Ryan's kindy did provide meal for children.
I am now pening for start thinking the right food for Sarah pack to kindy when she start her schooling next yr.
