Ryan's Car Collection

Ryan likes to play cars.....everyday he will play with them, he even asked mummy & daddy to accompany him playing with his cars. Actually some of his cars are brought back from Medan (belong to Ryan's cousins), last Dec when we were back to Medan, his cousin gave him some cars to play and then When we were back to Sibu on Feb'09,I brought all the cars back too for Ryan. Subsequently, mummy & daddy & grandma also bought some new cars for Ryan to play.
What I can say is that 'Everyday is a CAR DAY' for Ryan.Sometimes the cars have to accompany him sleep too. Some new words that Ryan learn while playing with his cars " lorry, car, shell (he is referring to shell ferrari car), e-o-e-o (he is referring to police car), hong-lan (he is referring to the alarm on police car - blue and red colour alarm).

Dragon Boat Festival '09

Another backdated post....Lately I was pretty tiring after taking care Ryan. Actually I have alot of things in mind to be write up in this blog ,but every night I was too lazy to update my blog.

Let's get back to this topic. Last Thurday 27 May'09 was marked as Duan Wu Jie (Dragon Boat Festival). As usual, MIL started make zongzi a few days before Duan Wu Jie. I did not how to make....I will only contribute my mouth to eat...hahaha:)
MIL make 3 types of zongzi : peanut, bak chang & red bean.

On 27 May'09, MIL cooked alot of food for dinner to celebrate the Duan Wu Jie (almost 10 dihes served on the table). Same time, MIL also invited some guest came to our house for dinner.Ryan also enjoyed eating fried mee with vege+fried chicken that day.Sorry too busy eating...so never snapped any pics.

Let's me share with you all the history of Dragon Boat Festival:-
Dragon Boat Festival is called Duan Wu Jie in Chinese. Jie means festival. The festival is celebrated on the 5th of the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calendar (June 4, 2003).

The most popular theory of the origin of the festival is that it was derived from the activities of commemorating a great patriot poet, Qu Yuan. The story about Qu Yuan has been deeply rooted in Chinese culture and this festival, so it is definitely a very important factor for the origin of the festival.

But since some of the well-known traditions of the festival already existed even before Qu Yuan, other origins of the festival were also suggested. Wen Yiduo suggested that the festival may be associated with dragon closely because two of the most important activities of the festival, dragon boat racing and eating zongzi, are related to dragon. Another view is that the festival is originated from the taboo of evil days. The fifth month of the Chinese lunar calendar is traditionally considered an evil month and the 5th of the month is particularly a bad day, so a lot of taboo had been developed.

Most likely, the festival was gradually derived from all of the suggestions and the story of Qu Yuan is certainly the driving power to make it a great festival today.

Like other Chinese festivals, there is also a legend behind the festival. Qu Yuan served in the court of Emperor Huai during the Warring States (475 - 221 BC). He was a wise and erudite man. His ability and fight against corruption antagonized other court officials. They exerted their evil influence on the Emperor, so the Emperor gradually dismissed Qu Yuan and eventually exiled him. During his exile, Qu Yuan did not give up. He traveled extensively, taught and wrote about his ideas. His works, the Lament (Li Sao), the Nine Chapters (Jiu Zhang), and Wen tian, are masterpieces and invaluable for studying ancient Chinese culture. He saw the gradual decline of his mother country, the Chu State. And when he heard that the Chu State was defeated by the strong Qin State, he was so despaired that he ended his life by flinging himself into the Miluo River.

Legend says after people heard he drowned, they were greatly dismayed. Fishermen raced to the spot in their boats to search for his body. Unable to find his body, people threw zongzi, eggs and other food into the river to feed fish, so hoped to salvage his body. Since then, people started to commemorate Qu Yuan through dragon boat races, eating zongzi and other activities, on the anniversary of his death, the 5th of the fifth month.

Zongzi is the most popular food for the festival. Zongzi is a special kind of dumpling. It is usually made of glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo leaves. Fresh bamboo leaves are the best for the wrapping since the taste and smell of the fresh bamboo leaves is part of zongzi. Unfortunately fresh bamboo leaves are hard to find.

Today you may see zongzi in different shapes and with a variety of fillings. The most popular shapes are triangular and pyramidal. The fillings include dates, meat, yolk of egg, etc. The most popular fillings are dates. The festival is closely associated with zongzi and dragon boat races. More importantly this is also a national patriot festival through commemorating the great patriot poet, Qu Yuan. People are reminded that the importance of loyalty and commitment to the community in the festival.

Lastly I wish all my friends ~~ Happy Belated Dragon Boat Festival ~~

Ryan like playing with the horse,he will say ' yau yau yau' while riding the horse. The horse has 2 functions : rock like a rocking chair & use leg to ride/move the horse around.

Put on a Tie

Ryan likes to play with new thing..whenever he saw something new in the drawer or table, he will grab & play with it. One day, I took out measuring tape to measure his height...he was curious on the long long thing that I took out from the drawer. After measuring his height, he asked for this measuring tape, then he climbed to the bed & try to think what he could do with this measuring tape.He tried to put on his neck and it seem like he was trying to put on a tie.Of course, he did not know how to do it. He was keep trying n trying....Looking at him so enjoy playing the measuring tape, just let him play for awhile while I was busy taking his pics.

Home-Cooked Fried BeeHoon

I also facing big problem..what to cook for Ryan tomorrow?? I always think one day in advance for Ryan's meal. Since Ryan does not really like Kue Tiau and so long he never eat BeeHoon, I decided to cook fried BeeHoon for him 3 days ago for his lunch. I did not add lot of ingredients, just bit of sayur sawi + tomatoes (his favo food) + egg.It looks delicious and Ryan kept call "mee mee mee',he could not wait to eat this fried BeeHoon.

Home-Cooked Kampua Mee

I guess you all will be curious what is 'Kampua Mee' ?
Sibu(my hubby's hometown - place where I am staying now) is famous of Kampua Mee(Foochow Specialty). You can simply find it available at every coffeeshop along the street. If you ever been to Kuching, you may notice that people there is selling 'Kolo Mee. Kolo Mee and Kampua Mee are similar in a lot of ways but both have their unique taste that differentiate themselves from each other. For those who does not have enough tastebuds, they will say both taste the same.

Once a week, I will buy Kampua Mee from wet market and cook it myself for hubby,Ryan & I for breakfast.

Here is simple method cooking the noodle:

# Boil sufficient water in a pot to boil the noodle. Have a big container (bucket) filled with tap water (for dipping in the noodle later)
# Loosen the ball of noodle. When water comes to a boil (high flame), drop in the noodle. Use chopstick to loosen and stir the noodle for about a minute.
# Scoop out the noodle and drop it into the bucket of water to wash away any flour residue. Use chopstick to jiggle the noodle.
# Return the noodle to the boiling water to warm it up for a few seconds. Scoop out and shake off excess water.
# Put the noodle into the bowl of mixed sauce(light soya sos,Maggi Seasoning, fried shallots, pork lard/cooking oil) and toss well.If you like to eat black & spicy version Kampua Mee,then add bit of dark soya sos + chilly sos.
# Ready to eat.

My Writing Board

Since Ryan loves to hold a pen and scribble on paper, at last I decided to buy him a writing board. It is pretty cheap RM5(made in China).Ryan still can't hold the pen correctly and he refused me holding his hand too. Very stubborn!! He wants to do it by himself. He likes to ask me draw a "MOON" on the board. You might be curious 'why is a moon??'...the reason is that Ryan always join me outside the car pouch while I am drying up clothes at night time. He sees alot of stars and sometimes there is a moon in the sky. Sometimes he will even ask me squat there and see the stars and moon together with him. When he saw the stars, he will think of the song'twinkle twinkle little star', then he will start sing this song.

Caught in a Washing Net

Ryan is very playful. When he saw something new lying in the living room...he will go grab it and play with it. So one day, he saw me put the washing net at staircase area, he faster grab it and play with it. He open up the zip and then put the washing net on his head and played peek-a-boo with me. He also walked around the living room with washing net covered his face. Such a playful boy!!

What 's the THINGS on top of my head??

Sorry for being absence for past few weeks. I have not been updating my blog due to my Streamyx line was down. Since last GOOD FRIDAY, the internet line was down for few days, then after complaining, then the service was up again. But in next few days, the bug seem came back again. Getting flared up , I make a complain call to Telekom.A rebate will be given due to poor services.

Let's get back to the topic that I m goin to post up here.

I was opening the envelopes for some letter, he came across this red envelope, then he tear here n there abit and put on top of his head and came showing it to me "Mummy Mummy Hat Hat". Oh....my little boy is creating a new hat for himself using the red envelope. Then I told him, Mummy snapped some pics of you...stay tuned,Ok. Then Ryan replied " Ok Ok". Managed to snap few pics of Ryan wearing red envelope hat.

After a while, he saw white plastic (wrapped the CoSway booklet) lying on the coffee table. He then make a bigger hole on it and put it on top of his head. Again he showed it to me. Not to miss the chance, I faster grabbed my camera to snap some of his funny actions.

Do you think they look like a Hat and Shower Cap???
